What is Safe Space Cumberland? What do we do?

Safe Space Cumberland is a home and community center dedicated to supporting marginalized communities and local residents. While we are not a live-in facility, we offer everything a home provides—except lodging. Our doors are open to the public, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where individuals can access essential resources, support, and services.
We partner with local organizations, mental health providers, and social work agencies to connect our community with vital resources, programs, and events. Our programs are built by the community, for the community, designed to bridge service gaps and ensure that no one is left without the care and support they need.

Resources and Needs Assistance
The Resources and Placement Assistance program is designed to help individuals access vital services and find suitable placement based on their unique needs. Whether you're seeking housing, employment, or educational opportunities, this program provides personalized assessments and connects you with community resources, professionals, and support networks. We offer guidance in areas such as financial assistance, job placement, mental health support, and more, ensuring that everyone has access to the tools and services they need to succeed.
Homeward Bound Your Path to Homeownership
Homeward Bound Your Path to Ownership
Homeward Bound is a comprehensive program designed to guide individuals through the home-buying process. Through weekly meetings, participants will receive expert advice on improving credit, financial planning, and navigating the real estate market. The program offers personalized one-on-one sessions with professionals, including credit counselors, mortgage advisors, and real estate agents, to help make homeownership a reality. Sessions are available in person, online, and via Zoom, ensuring accessibility for all


Recovery Through Nature
Recovery Through Nature is a holistic program designed to support individuals on their journey to healing by connecting them with the outdoors. Focused on mental health and addiction recovery, the program offers nature-based activities such as hiking, meditation, and outdoor therapy to promote well-being and personal growth. By immersing participants in the healing power of nature, we aim to foster resilience, mindfulness, and a sense of community, helping individuals reconnect with themselves and the world around them.
Commission LGBTQIA2+S Affairs Allegany Co. MD
The Commission on LGBTQIA2+S Affairs in Allegany County, MD is committed to fostering equality, inclusivity, and support for LGBTQIA2+ individuals. Our mission is to advocate for fair policies, address the challenges faced by the LGBTQIA2+ community, and ensure that everyone, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, can live with dignity, respect, and acceptance.


Safe Space Hearth and Home Program
The Safe Space Hearth and Home Program is a community gardening initiative focused on bringing people together and providing access to fresh, natural foods within the LGBTQIA+ community. The program creates and maintains community gardens, offering a space for connection, healing, and sustainability.
In addition to gardening, Hearth and Home hosts community events like cooking classes, canning workshops, and tea parties, while supporting an emergency food pantry for those in need. Through collaborations with local growers and organizations, the program fosters a stronger, more supportive community.
The Jude Marney Foundation
The Jude Marney Foundation provides emergency financial assistance and essential resources to LGBTQIA2S+ and marginalized individuals facing crises. Offering support for housing, legal aid, medical needs, and more, the Foundation ensures that those in vulnerable situations have access to immediate help. Its mission is to remove barriers and provide crucial aid to those in urgent need.


Binnix House
Binnix House is a transitional housing program in Cumberland, Maryland, providing affordable, supportive housing for single adults (21+). With a structured, community-oriented environment, residents receive shared living spaces, essential utilities, staff support, and access to job placement, counseling, and financial education. Offering flexible stay options (daily, weekly, or monthly), Binnix House helps individuals transition toward independent living with stability and dignity.
