Our Mission

The Commission LGBTQIA2S+ Affairs Allegany Co. MD is dedicated to promoting equality, inclusivity, and support for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals throughout Allegany County. Our mission is to address the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQIA2+ community, advocate for equitable policies, and ensure that every individual, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can live with dignity and respect.

What We Do

Advocacy and Policy Recommendations

The Commission LGBTQIA2S+ Affairs Allegany Co. MD works tirelessly to identify and address issues impacting the LGBTQIA2S+ community. We collaborate closely with the Maryland Commission on LGBTQIA+ Affairs to advocate for policy changes that protect and uplift LGBTQIA2+ individuals, ensuring that their rights are safeguarded both locally and statewide.

 

Community Engagement and Education

We engage with the community through outreach and educational initiatives designed to promote understanding, acceptance, and inclusivity. Our goal is to create a more supportive environment in Allegany County by raising awareness and providing resources to those in need.

 

Support and Services

Through our strong partnership with Safe Space Cumberland, we provide vital services to LGBTQIA+ youth and adults in the region. Safe Space Cumberland, led by our Chairperson Robert Zouche, offers a safe and welcoming environment where LGBTQIA2S+ individuals can access critical resources, support services, and community connection. This collaboration ensures that we can meet the diverse needs of our community effectively.

The Commission LGBTQIA2S+ Affairs Allegany Co. MD is proud to partner with Safe Space Cumberland to enhance the services and support available to the LGBTQIA+ community. Our partnership allows us to:

• Enhance Service Delivery: By integrating our advocacy efforts with the comprehensive services provided by Safe Space Cumberland, we ensure that LGBTQIA2S+ individuals have access to the resources they need to thrive.

• Expand Outreach: Together, we work to reach underserved populations, particularly LGBTQIA2S+ youth, ensuring they have access to safe spaces and supportive services.

• Advocate for Resources: We collaborate to secure funding and resources necessary for the ongoing success and expansion of LGBTQIA2S+ services in Allegany County.
